Sydney Heads

Sydney Heads popularly known as "the Heads" are the sentinels that guard the entrance to Port Jackson or Sydney Harbour - North Head and Quarantine Head to the north, South Head and Dunbar Head to the south, and Middle Head, Georges Head and Chowder Head to the west within the bay. The western limit of the Harbour is officially Long Nose Point where the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers join Port Jackson. The tips of North and South Heads comprise of national parks and defence areas where remnants of the old fortifications are still preserved. Macquarie Lighthouse, Australia's oldest lighthouse is located on Dunbar Head. Australia's third oldest lighthouse, Hornby Lighthouse, is situated on South Head.
