Location
The famous Sydney Harbour, which is more so for the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, is part of Port Jackson. A natural harbour, it was discovered by Lt. James Cook in 1770.
The bridge stretches from Dawes Point at one end to Milsons Point at the other. Carrying rail, vehicular and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district and the North Shore, the bridge is the major crossing of the Sydney Harbour. Eight vehicle lanes, two train lanes, a foot path and a bicycle path stretch across the bridge carrying ever-increasing volumes of traffic across the bridge. The opening of the Harbour Tunnel on 31 August 1993 has, however, helped to ease the mounting traffic pressure on the bridge.
The road across the bridge is called Bradfield Highway which is one of the shortest highways in Australia (2.4 km).
