Port Stephens
Port Stephens is a deepwater harbour, about two and a half times as large as Sydney Harbour and stretches 20 kilometres inland. It is just a two and a half hour drive from Sydney, lying on the New South Wales North Coast. Port Stephens has remained unspoilt over the years and almost untouched except for the warm, welcoming tourist accommodations and other attractions that await the visitors who wish to get away from the high-rises and other man-made advancements of the city. Port Stephens offers breathtaking views with all the beautiful bays and the delightful beaches along the coastline.
Bottlenose dolphins are one of the chief attractions of Port Stephens. You can hire boats or go on organized tours around Port Stephens to watch the dophins. Another point of attraction is Hump Back Whale watching during their migration to the north in search of warmer waters and then later in the year to the south to Antarctica.
TFishing is another enjoyable activity for visitors in Port Stephens. Fishing can be done from off wharves and beaches. There are also fishing charters offered for deep see fishing as well as fishing from other different water stretches of the Port. Boats can also be hired to go further into the rivers and lakes.
