Mrs Macquarie's Chair

On the eastern shore of Farm Cove, under the shade of a big Moreton Bay figtree, stands a chair carved out of stone. This is built in memory of Elizabeth Macquarie, second wife of Lachlan Macquarie who was Governor of New South Wales between 1810 and 1821. She was a very enterprising, benevolent lady who always took active participation in the endeavours for the uplift of the colony. She often made trips to Yurong or Anson's Point (Yurong being an aboriginal name) or sometimes took a walk through the bushes with an aboriginal from the Government House to the point where she would sit and watch and enjoy the view of the harbour.
