Location
Blue Mountains lie adjacent to the city of Sydney. The entrance to the Blue Mountains is only a 50-minute drive from Sydney. The easiest means of transport is by car. From the city, driving toward Parramatta, the M4 Motorway starting at Strathfield leads you to Lapstone which is the entrance to the Blue Mountains. Blue Mountains is also accessible through the Bell's Line of Road which starting from Richmond, through Mount Tomah and Bell, leads you to Mount Victoria. This drive which takes you through the Blue Mountains National Park is immensely pleasant and very peaceful. If you are driving from the outer west, follow signs to Lithgow, and then towards Hartley at which point you enter the Blue Mountains through Victoria Pass and then straight to the top at Mount Victoria.
If you are travelling by train, there is a direct rail link from the Sydney Airport to the Central Railway Station. Then there are air-conditioned double decker trains to the Mountains from the Central Railway Station that take you to the Mountains stopping at Strathfield, Parramatta, Penrith, Emu Plains and then all stations up the Blue Mountains. Most trains take you up to Mount Victoria and some to Lithgow. There are services every hour and they are more frequent during peak times.
Taxis can be hired from Blaxland, Springwood, Leura and Katoomba Railway Stations.
