Three Sisters
The Three Sisters are a rock formation in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, standing close to the town of Katoomba and looking down at the Jamison Valley. The Sisters are named Meenhi, Wimlah, and Gunnedoo and rise 922 m, 918 m, and 906 m above ground respectively. The Blue Mountains comprise of sandstone which is soft and easily eroded by rain, wind and rivers. Erosion by water is believed to eat into the cracks in the rocks, causing deep clefts in them. The Three Sisters are believed to have been formed as a result of such erosion. It is also believed that erosion will eventually wear away the Sisters completely.
There is a Giant Staircase that runs down into the Jamison Valley by the Three Sisters. This provides good opportunity for the visitor who loves to explore nature on foot.
